Baldur's Gate 3 review
The new high-water mark for the CRPG
Three playthroughs in and it's still surprising me. Act 3 wobbles, but the rest is untouchable.

A party you actually care about
After 400+ hours across three campaigns (a Tav Paladin, a Dark Urge run and an honour-mode attempt that ended in tears), the thing that keeps pulling me back is how reactive everything is. Companions remember. Choices in Act 1 ripple into the last hour.
Combat
The 5e ruleset translates beautifully. Verticality, shove, and environmental surfaces mean almost every fight has a clever solution.
Where it stumbles
- Act 3's city is dense to the point of performance trouble
- A handful of quest flags still break on edge cases
If you like games that respect your choices, this is the one.
The good
- Companions that remember everything
- Combat with a clever answer to every fight
- Choices that carry through to the ending
The bad
- Act 3 city struggles on performance
- Some quest flags still break
